Always really decent quality food at Ellie Mays. Good portion size, good service and tasty food. Thoroughly recommend!
I went for a meal with all the family (ten of us including 3 young children) and the service was absolutely terrible. Some of us have worked in the service industry and had never experienced worse. I can't fault the food which was actually pretty decent but our table was sporadically and what seemed reluctantly served by four different members of staff, only up until the point we were given a dessert menu. Then no one came near us despite attempts to get their attention. We sat with the menus for over 50 minutes and not one staff member returned to the vicinity of our table. Not even the excuse of being a busy Saturday evening could be used as by this point most other customers had left (probably due to a similar experience).As we were a large party and everyone, especially the kids, wanted dessert this makes absolutely no sense. The kids were quite upset and what started as a good night ended up very frustrating and disappointing. We made a complaint to the staff that were now collectively perched behind the bar just casually chatting and cleaning glasses and were just given an apathetic, mumbled 'apology'.None of the family will be back and we will definitely not be recommending to anyone!
Great meeting place. Wood burner in the corner is welcoming sight on a winter's day. Food never disappoints always first class. Friendly staff. Pet friendly.
Lovely pub and my main, the battered scampi, was amazing! The service was also perfect and the atmosphere was friendly and laid back. Great place for above average pub grub to a nice dinner. Highly recommend EllieMays for a family dinner to even a nice date night!
Top spot! Best Guinness around and great food. Lovely bar and staff. A proper country pub!
